We had our big ultrasound this past Tuesday, and since Matt's grandparents were coming to town this weekend we decided to wait and find out the gender of the baby with Matt's family yesterday!
So at the ultrasound we asked the radiologist to not tell us the baby's gender, but rather to seal the "news" in two separate envelopes. One envelope went to the bakery, where they made a gorgeous {and yummy} cake with either blue or pink cake on the inside, depending on the contents of the envelope...
Then yesterday we picked up the cake and took it to Matt's parents' home to find out the exciting news!
I carefully cut the cake...
{Can you see the anticipation on everyone's face?!?}
...and was both suprised and elated to see...
...a BLUE cake!!!
IT'S A BOY!!!
{As you can see, all of the exciting cheers were a bit much for little Emily!}
Jude kept peering into the cake then asked us all, "But where's the baby??" Apparently we had not explained the "gender reveal cake" concept to him quite as well as we thought we had!
Once all of the cheering and confusion wore off, though, both Jude and Emily were VERY excited about their soon-to-be baby brother and thoroughly enjoyed his delicious cake!
Oh yes, and remember that second envelope sealed by the radiologist?
It was for us...
We are thrilled beyond words that this new little one is a boy and cannot wait to meet him early next year! I had convinced myself ~ due to all of the morning sickness I had ~ that this one was another girl, so Matt and I were both very much surprised to see that beautifully blue cake. But what a wonderful and absolutely perfect surprise it was, and a sweet blessing that we were able to share this happy moment with family!
