Hurricane Ike

Thanks to everyone who's called, emailed and sent texts to us concerning our home and the hurricane. It's so great to know that our family, friends and home are being prayed for even while we're away. :) Most of our neighbors evacuated, since they have small children, but one family stayed. They were so great to go secure our patio furniture for us on Friday, and they told us they'd call with an update on our home as soon as they could after the storm hit. So.....the storm hit yesterday....and we waited....and waited....and waited to hear from them, knowing that our community had more than likely lost all power (which they did). Today, though, they were able to call us with an update, and right now Matt's parents are actually at the house surveying the outside damage.

The good news is the house is standing, the trees, fences (though diagonal!) and playscape are all intact, and it doesn't look like any of the windows are broken.

The bad news is that a significant part of our chimney, along with several roof shingles, were ripped off.....meaning we more than likely have water inside our home. And the electricity could be off for up to 2 more weeks, meaning no A/C.....which will probably lead to mold.

We know that God is in control, but it's hard to be so far removed from the situation right now. Please pray that we can stay calm right now and that God will direct us when we get back home in all of the decisions that will need to be made. This is when being a grown-up is not so fun...
